FLIPPIN ECK!

Well, its been a busy and crazy month and November is just around the corner. Recently I've been hidden away working on two new online cartoons, which will soon be finished and ready to show.
I release my new website today www.patrickfowler.co.uk, which has taken a lot of late night work to put together but its finally here and feedback seems good for it!

I got a lucky break with my SHEEP project for animate chapman with a 3 month deadline extension.

ABOVE: These are two entries for FLIP Festivals, design a t-shirt competition. I through these together , while working on a commissioned Radiohead t-shirt last month. Had real fun doing them and gives me a break from drawing hundreds of frames to focus on one picture for a while. :)

Tune in next month for more exciting news!

Oh Deer Pillow competition - 'Cold side'

My entry for the Oh Deer competition.

Inspired by the cold side of the pillow and what I thought lived there.

'Welcome to the cold side of the pillow,
Where the nights are cool and the sleeps are long.
 Plus Eskimos live there...'

Minecraft - Threadless T-Shirt design competition

Here are three designs which I've entered into the Threadless t-shirt competition.

They wanted anything to do with Minecraft and seeing as its one of my favourite games, I thought I'd give it ago. The 1st one (BLUE) is based off one of my favourite scenes in Indiana Jones and I thought the two went hand in hand.

The 2nd (PURPLE) is more of a graphic approach, starting with the phrase 'all that glitters, is not gold', I thought I'd merge the danger of exploring but also the fun at what you can find.

The 3rd and last one (BLACK) is based off the same phrase but a lot more minimalistic. I decided to show all the Ores you can find in Minecraft, some much more valuable than gold.

Animate Graham Chapman - Individual

Thought I'd have a crack at entering the Animate Graham Chapman competition. Quite simply they provide you with a selection of voice clips, which you then choose one of to animate. I have chosen the famous scene from life of brian, where Graham gives a speech to the masses, telling them they're all individuals and don't have to follow anyone.

Naturally, the first thing that came to my head was sheep and have had loads of fun storyboarding, designing and animating. I've uploaded some reference sketches and rough design for the lead character  (Graham) the black sheep.

Anti-Joke Characters - Susie Swing

Its been a while since my last post and plenty has happened since. Since leaving Uni I've been working on two projects, the first is a web based series called 'Anti-Jokes' and the second is producing illustrations for a friends children's e-book.

Along side entering my grad film into festivals and doing bits and bobs for people, I've tumbled out of Uni, trying to hit the ground running. After editing a fresh showreel together and typing up a neat C.V, I gathered a few studios I really loved the work of and began researching them, sending e-mails and finding out who had work available. Meanwhile, last Friday I finally sent off my work to two studios based in Manchester, so fingers crossed.

While I wait to get on the animation industry rung, I decided to not watch paint dry and keep on animating, be it exercises or live work. Above: These are two character concepts of one of the character in the Anti-joke series. This character is called Susie and I've gone with simple shapes and tried to make her innocent looking, which stands in stark contrast to the peril that awaits her.

The first two episodes will be released at the end of October, 'Susie Swing' and 'Billy Ice-Cream'.

Wednesday 6 June 2012

Our Degree show last Friday was a great success and was rumoured to be the best floor
in the building!

Plenty of champagne flowing and excellent work on show. Was really proud we managed to pull everything off, with very little time. Plenty of drunk photos for afterwards with great friends.

Next week will be my very last week as a student in the Art building and will be very sad indeed. Its has its ups and downs but nevertheless has been my animation home for the past three years!

The public viewing starts this week, so hope people can come and join us now all the free wine has gone! Managed to speak to a very nice lady, who mentioned the science park of the University are eager to attend, so its nice to see other sectors look at our work, proving we don't just play games and watch youtube all day.

OPENING TIMES:

Wednesday 6th – Friday 8th June, 10am – 7pm
Saturday 9th June, 10am – 4pm.

BELOW: Photo of my glorious Degree show awards, most proud of the coveted McCabe award of course! Really glad we decided to do a little award show, ended the night perfectly, with a little harmless banter and all round fun!

The second photo is of my good friends, Andrew Edwards and Thomas Massey, holding our prize possession 'The Bromance Award', deserved winners for our group TAP. We each agreed to share it Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, as we didn't want to decapitate the poor duck.

In the centre of the photo is our tutor Steve Arnott, who had been ill for some time but manage to pull one out of the bag and end up being the best dressed person there! Tuxedo for win!

Even my own dad (bottom left) managed to photobomb... I mean come to my award show, which was fun and I'm glad he and my mum enjoyed themselves!

Defiantly the best night so far and really looking forward to coming to next years Degree Show.

Thursday 31 May 2012

Business cards came yesterday, think they turned out well, so much blue!
This is my Degree Show space for my graduate film 'Interview with a Distraction'. I wanted to recreate as best I could a scene from my film. I think it turned out well and I'm really looking forward to it this Friday 1st June.

Last Animation Party!

This is a photo of Andrew Edwards (right) Me (middle) and Thomas Massey (right) at the last ever animation party at Wolverhampton University. (2012)

Me and Tom came as Terrance and Philip from South Park....great idea!

This is my favourite photo of the 3 years and theres been a fair few...

I probably wouldn't tell them this to their faces (because their already good enough!)
but every inside joke, project, pint in the hogs head or general animation banter means
world to me and I'm gonna miss not bouncing my crazy ideas off these 2 guys.

Ever since the first year, we just clicked and although we have worked on our own stuff this year,
I would still like to work with them in the future. They are two extremely talented animators and will find
success in no time.

I had hoped that in the future, if I acquired enough money and business knowledge that we would partner up and make our first company name, TAP (tom, andy, paddy). Still one can dream and even if it doesn't happen, I feel lucky to have met some brilliant animators and gained some awesome friends.

Flash.....

J-peg

The Adventures of the Animates

Rough idea for a short, maybe for Depict, I have had for a while.

A group of fearless warrior friends, known as the 'Animates', sail from land to land, defeating foes, collecting treasure, and saving the world.

Using their powers of animation, they travel across the world to the land of 'Tween' to defeat the evil mastermind know as 'Jpeg', who has a WMV, which when you used will cover the world in 'Staticmation'.

In order to defeat Jpeg they must first meet up with the 3 Gods of Animation, Flash, Maya and Toon boom, then find the missing keyframes, which they will use to stop Jpeg and restore balance to the Universe.
