Run Forrest RUN!

Running Man

A simple run cycle for a character I designed a while back.

(Rough Line Version) and (Full Colour Version)

I think its always good practise to do cycles and I wish I did more. They certainly help flush out a

character and keep your internal rhythm as an Animator ticking over nicely.

Been using Photoshop to animate for a while now, its especially good for rough key frame work and

the expansive set of brushes make clean up work and colouring really open and keen to experiment.

I'd say its just as good as TV Paint with a nicer user interface, especially if you're use to using it on a

daily basis.

Goldeneye Storyboard

Did a quick storyboard of my favourite opening film sequence from the James Bond film Goldeneye.

Really love the intensity of the wide angle shots, mixed with the tight close ups, which for me, is what a

spy film like a James Bond should have.

Editing in Norway - Heart of Lightness

In August/September I edited on this beautiful film by Director Jan Vardoen, called 'Heart of Lightness'.

Based on the play by famous Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen 'The Lady from the Sea'.

I've edited on some little projects before but nothing on this scale and really enjoyed the challenge of adding another string to my bow and was nice to work on the post end of production for once.

Norway is such a beautiful place and having the pleasure of pouring through hours of breathtaking  landscapes was an added bonus while working on this film.

The film is in its final stages of music and colour correction and will be considered for Sundance and Berlin Film Festival last this month.

I wish it all the best and it will be nice to have edited on a film that made it to either prestigious festival.

Director Jan Vardoen was a pleasure to work with and such a passionate, talented guy that I'm sure his name will be wider known very soon.

Currently, I've been working on some secret documentary footage for Jan and all I can say is, it involves beautiful footage of Cuba for something he has planned later next Summer.

This was certainly a rewarding experience for me and as Stephen King would say..."To write is human, to edit is divine".

Below is the trailer, which I helped work on as well near the end of my time there and help make the titles for...enjoy.

My NEW Short Film 'Sandwich' - Early Character Concepts

Its been burning away at me since September and in February, I started my new animated short film, 'Sandwich'. Half way through production now, with a script, storyboard and some motion test done, I plan on having it ready by July. The film is under 2 minutes and taking inspiration from old Twilightzone episodes, I have come up with a story that I think it whimsical, funny and enjoyable.

I had a basic idea down before Christmas but put the work in, changing the script till it was absolutely watertight. With a few other gigs on the go at the moment to, I'm trying to get 10 seconds a week under my belt, from now till the end of production.

I will post some other work up next week....

Coffee mug at the ready and nose to the grindstone!

Bringing down the House

Some more tests for music festival poster work.

I had done some compositing work in Uni, drawing monsters on top of Live Action photographs.

This was using a similar style but keeping the human touch.

Anti-Joke

Did this in a few nights for some fun.

Love Anti-Jokes and thought it was about time someone tried animating them.

Check them out here... www.anti-joke.com

Few more on their way soon...

Snack Guy

Bit of character design for a script I'm working on, involving a guy and his late night snack.

Every time I see a link like this on Twitter, I think of this.

Probably has a big brother, whose mean and won't share his toys.

New Year in February

Feel bad for not posting in such a long time but I've been swamped with work, which is a good thing I guess. Firstly, over Christmas I managed to do some freelance background and clean up work which was really funny and exciting to work on. Unfortunately, I can't post any of the work because it hasn't been released yet but it was fun nonetheless.

That was only for a month and meanwhile I'm preparing a few new things to go on my showreel, as to apply for an internship I'm looking to get in to. It has been fun doing character work again, currently working on two 10 second lip syncs from my favourite film Anchorman.

Depict opened its door for entries yesterday and having been shortlisted before, I always said if I had the time, I'd enter again. Currently got a quirky little story in the pipeline for that...won't give too much away till its all sorted.

Anyway, I promise to try update this thing more in the new year and I'll hopefully post where the rest of February takes me!

Enough TALK more DRAWINGS!

Current character I'm developing for a short with a friend. Typical tourist guy, probably American no doubt, he's missing his trademark camera but its only rough for now.

Frame from a quick storyboard I did to improve my camera angles. This is the establishing shot from my favourite James Bond film Goldeneye.

Oh and I forgot about this. Little animation I did for Animade's Full Secs, inspired by Movember.
